May 15, 2024 - Anchorage

We spent the day exploring Anchorage. We woke up hungry after our, not so great airplane dinner and headed out for breakfast. The Snow City Cafe fit the bill beautifully. A cool place with a large breakfast menu. We both ordered pancakes and eggs, Andy added bacon. After breakfast we went for a long walk on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. The weather was cool, but beautifully clear. Water fowl were busy on the mud flats of Knick Arm and the views of the mountains were spectacular.

We shared a bagel for lunch back at the hotel and stopped at the Silversea information desk to get the details for the trip down to Seward tomorrow. In Seward we will board the Sliversea ship the Sliver Muse, our home for the next 11 days. We enjoyed a rest back at the room. The view from there wasn’t too shabby either.

We headed out again to explore the shops and sites of Anchorage. We found the Wyland wall the Bolto statute.

After another stop at the hotel we walked to the Ulu Factory. We browsed the Made in Alaska ulu’s and picked one to replace our very old, kind of broken one. After ulu shopping we had an early dinner at The 49th State Brewing Co.. Kind of pricey, but Andy enjoyed a nice piece of halibut. After dinner we walked down to Resolution Point to see the Captain Cook Monument. We read a sign about Cook’s expeditions in the Pacific Ocean. His last voyage was an attempt to find the western entrance to the Northwest passage. He failed, then died, and then they named this hotel after him….seems fair.
