We’re off on another adventure. This time for an Alaskan cruise. Megan and the grandkids drove us to the airport so there was no time to get nervous and continually check that my passport was where I’d packed it. Our send off was full of giggles and smiles! We headed out at 2:00 in the afternoon.
I don’t like flying. I think it’s the constant hum of the engines and the closed in space. (I don’t like caves either). We flew first class this time and it was a little better, but it was still flying. Our first leg of the flight, Detroit to Seattle was on time and smooth. We had spectacular views of Mt Rainier as we approached Seattle. I’m glad I opened my shade to peek outside.
Everyone else had their shades closed for the entire (daytime) flight adding to the closed in cave feeling. After a 3 hour layover at the Seattle airport we headed to Anchorage. We were a little concerned as to how we’d get to our downtown hotel at 1:30 in the morning and planned on a Uber or taxi, then we spotted a person holding a Silversea sign. Unfortunately, she told us we couldn’t use the bus since it was for people who booked the door to door package. As we were waiting for our bags we spotted a different Silversea person. We liked him better, he told us were to catch the coach for transfer to the Captain Cook Hotel. As there were only 2 other couples on the giant bus, we fit easily. We were checked in and ready for a good sleep at 2:15 (6:15 Detroit time - a very long day).
