Today we toured around Prince Edward Island. We took a bike ride on the Golf Shore Parkway. The red cliffs and beaches were beautiful. The weather was spectacular.
We had lunch at the camper then went in search of Anne. There’s a large visitors center at the site of Green Gables that wasn’t there when we were here 20+ years ago. We happened upon a folk band and sat and enjoyed some island music before visiting the house. Anne would be glad to know Green Gables hasn’t changed, but I’m sure Lucy Maud Montgomery wouldn’t recognize Cavendish with all its touristy trappings. We enjoyed a walk through the Haunted Woods and a stroll down Lovers Lane.
After visiting Anne we went in search of a cute downtown or shopping area. There doesn’t seem to be one. We stopped at a couple tourist spots but the shops were a little tacky and the dinner options not much better. Back at the camper we searched for someplace to eat and found the Bogside Brewery a little ways out. The beer, pizza and atmosphere were all good.
We ended the day with a walk on Covehead beach. Families and friends were setting up for an evening of fishing. We ask what they were fishing for and they told us sea bass. They had long sturdy poles baited with a chunk of fish and a heavy sinker. Wading out into the water they cast it out and put the pole in a holder stuck in the beach and waited for a bite. They were setting up with chairs and snacks and ready to wait for the fish.
Absolutely gorgeous pictures, especially of the red sand beaches and of Green Gables. Aunt Sally introduced me to Anne! I still have the copy of Pat of Silver Bush she gave me for my fifth birthday. So a trip to Green Gables was a necessity. Sadly, even then things were a bit touristy so we stayed clear of the towns. One night, at a campground near the beach, both families decided to set their alarms for 2 am and get up to look at the Milky Way. We have never seen so many stars! Thanks for diarying all this. It's almost like being there.
