April 11, 2025- Waco, Texas

In the morning, we discovered that the Midway Campground on Waco Lake is very nice, (despite the crazy 10:00 gate closing time). We tested the hot water heater, and we were thrilled to discover that we could get hot water without all the glycol leaking out of the system. It’s hot here in Taxes so we’ll have to check how the main heater works when we get back up north.

This morning, we toured Waco. We wandered around the cute shops at the Magnolia Market. They are filled with decorative items and sovereigns, everything is beautiful. We wished we were young with a house to decorate, but we have too much stuff as it is and should be getting rid of stuff, not adding to it. Despite that, Cathy got a baseball hat and a frame for her watercolors.

The famous silos provide a backdrop for live entertainment and a courtyard is set up with outdoor games and surrounded by picnic tables. Food trucks and shops offer tasty options, so we picked up lunch and listened to live music while we ate. We explored more of Waco before heading back to the camper for a rest.

We spent the late afternoon biking on the Waco Riverwalk Trail. It was fantastic! We started at the pedestrian suspension bridge. The entry to the bridge is guarded by a herd of bronze longhorn cattle! We road the non-city side first, and we were a little concerned when the trail left the river and followed a busy street. But soon it turned back to the river, through a pretty park and passed a large disc golf course. We enjoyed views of the steep rocky cliffs on the opposite bank of the river.

We returned on the other side and were thrilled to discover bronze sculptures decorating about 2 miles of the trail. It was wonderful.

After our ride we had dinner at Torchy’s Tacos (recommended by Megan), and really good. We walked around Baylor University. We sat beneath the live oak trees and listened to a senior citizen ukulele band playing and singing some old time tunes. We walked over and saw a lot students were sitting around and listening while eating off paper plates. Well a sign written on the sidewalk in chalk ‘ Free food’ was all it took to gather the crowd! After heading back to the camper we made a fire in the solo stove and watched the sunset and moon rise.
