Day 15 - Heading Home

Updated: Sep 24

August 14, 2024 - August 15, 2024

The plan was to take a couple days getting home and explore a little on the way. But the truck is like a horse headed to the barn, once it starts, it picks up pace and doesn’t want to stop.

We left Camden Hills State Park and headed south toward the Minute Man National Historical Park in Lexington, MA. A feature of the park is a walking/biking trail along Battle Rd. The route the British took during the first major military campaign of the American Revolutionary War. We walked the road in 2015 and thought it would be fun to ride the trail this time. When we visited before we noticed that the park was rather run down and needed some TLC. Thanks to the  Great American Outdoors Act, the park is finally getting the updates it needs. Unfortunately, parts of the trail were closed for updates shortening our bike ride. We rode the open areas and pointed the truck toward home.

Two weeks is about our max for our little camper home. After that, it seems to shrink a little. The towels, which we swapped out for fresh half way through the trip start to smell. And we’re running low on clean clothes. So we loosened the reins and let the truck run for home.

We drove until about 12:30 am August 15, 2024 and stopped 2 and 1/2 hours from home at a truck stop east of the Blue Water Bridge. We couldn’t stay awake any longer. Truck stops are a last resort stop. They are noisy and crowded, but it worked for the 6 or so hours of sleep we needed to get home.

It was a great trip, thanks for following along. We are already planning another trip, maybe we’ll explore upstate New York. It looks very pretty.

Dear Cathy and Andy, as you could tell from our comments, your trip followed fairly closely the route of a trip we took in 1982 with our children and another family, more than 40 years ago. Thanks so much for reawakening such happy memories! Cathy, you write beautifully...not too much, not too little, just enough to paint a memorable picture, even without the photos...but they also added so much. Congratulations to the photographer! Much love, Leon and Mary

Hi Mary, I'm so glad you enjoyed following along on our trip. The blogs are fun to write and good practice. We've always kept a trip log when we travel so this is a new way to record and share our adventures. Love, Cathy
