We were on our way up to the hotel room after dinner discussing whether we should book a hotel room for Sunday night or stay in the caravan place we already have booked. I said, "But we already paid for the caravan place." Andy's reply, "That's okay, it's getting to be like funny money anyway." Good thing we're nearing the end of our trip.
Today was mostly a travel day. We stopped and checked out Galway. We found the Spanish gate and the medieval street with lots of shops. We also looked at the excavated ruins of "The Red Earls" castle that is laying directly under the city streets.
We also found a dedication monument to President JFK in a small park commemorating his visit in 1963.
This part of Galway had a lot of tourists.
We've made a small adjustment to our plans and have decided not to go up to Connemara National Park. We wouldn't have much time there so it wouldn't be worth the extra driving down more narrow, winding streets. Instead we headed east out of Galway and are staying at the Headfort Arms hotel in Kells.
We stopped at Clonmacnoise. Another 6th century monastery. They have three ancient Celtic crosses which were very interesting. However, the best part of this stop was the 20 minute movie, because Andy got a much needed power nap. Yet another sign that we are getting to the end of our trip.
We had dinner in the pub adjacent to our hotel. The TV was showing the Ireland vs Greece football (soccer) match. At halftime the gentlemen at the table started up a conversation, asking us about our travels. He was from Cork. When the second half started the pub started to get crowded. The man's friends joined him. So he introduced us to them. When we got see up to leave, He ask if we would take a photo with him. It was very strange. Our cheesy faces will probably end up on his blog.
We are tired and ready for a good shower and a good nights sleep!
