We’re on the road! I hope I unplugged the iron? My mother used to ask that as we started out on a vacation. I haven’t used my iron in a long time, so I’m sure it’s unplugged.
This will be our first blog for a “camper trip”. We’re heading East through Canada. Destinations; Forillon National Park, Kouchibouguac National Park, PEI, Nova Scotia and Acadia National park.
We’re towing our camper home, as we fondly call our 2018 NuCamp Tab 400 camper. And we’re loaded down with gear for a 2+ week adventure. The bikes are on a Jack-it rack above the camper jack and the Oru kayaks are folded in the bed of the pickup.
We’re traveling in a camper, but we wouldn’t claim to be camping. Our camper is more of a hotel room on wheels. Some “RVers” use their campers as cottages, taking it to a destination and staying. We use ours to tour around. This is our first camper blog, but by no means our first camper trip. We’ll try and share not only our adventures in Canada, but tid bits about why we love touring with a camper home.
First tid bit, food! We eat a big lunch before leaving home. We had leftovers to finish. Therefore, we didn’t need a big dinner. We pulled over at an Onroute service center along the 401 outside of Toronto. We didn’t have to bother with lines and messy restrooms, we pulled into the quiet picnic area, popped into the camper used our own potty and had toasted bagels for dinner. Perfect! Many Onroute service centers have picnic areas, but they’re not readily noticeable, kind of hidden actually, because they want you inside spending some looneys.
Tonight we’re staying at a Walmart near Kingston, Ontario. It sounds weird, but Walmart stops are actually quite convenient. We don’t need any amenities, the camper has everything we need. We won’t stay at Walmart’s when we get to where we’re headed, we have reservations at the national park campgrounds, but for an easy between stop they work well. No electric hook ups, but everything but the a/c works off the 200 amp hour battery. Fans on so we are staying cool. We try to arrive late and leave early in these kind of stops. We are not the only ones boon docking at the Walmart. There’s people here sitting in lawn chairs enjoying the parking lot.
